Orange Sky is the not-for-profit organisation with a mission to positively connect communities by providing free laundry and shower services for people experiencing homelessness.
In 2025, Foundation North provided funding support for Orange Sky’s community support mahi helping to strengthen access to social connection and build community resilience in Tāmaki Makaurau.
Since launching in Auckland in 2018, Orange Sky has created safe and welcoming spaces where people can access free laundry and shower facilities while also sharing meaningful kōrero with volunteers.
Today, the organisation operates multiple mobile services across Aotearoa, including two in Auckland, partnering with local providers to ensure support reaches those who need it most.
What makes Orange Sky’s approach unique is how it reflects the understanding that homelessness is about more than a lack of housing. By combining practical services with genuine human connection, Orange Sky helps improve wellbeing, confidence, dignity, and belonging. Its collaborative, community-led model also connects people with wider support networks and wrap-around services.
“Beyond just addressing basic hygiene needs, we recognise the profound impact genuine conversation and connection can have on mental health. By fostering a welcoming environment where individuals can engage in meaningful interactions, we aim to raise dignity and mana, while also promoting mental well-being.”
Orange Sky is the only provider offering free mobile laundry services, showers, and social connection for people experiencing homelessness in New Zealand, with expanded services helping more people access essential hygiene facilities while building stronger community connections.
