New Digital Story: Prayas Theatre

05 September 2019   /   News & reports

Watch our latest digital story about Prayas Theatre, New Zealand’s largest South Asian theatre and cultural group. For the past 14 years Prayas has used the medium of theatre to connect and engage with communities, and nurture and inspire community artists.  Prayas’s most recent production was A Fine Balance, based on Rohinton Mistry’s celebrated, Booker-shortlisted novel. This co-production with Auckland Theatre Company told the story of the inhumane events associated with India’s tumultuous 1975 State of Emergency – mass sterilisation, demolition of slums, eviction - and the effects that this had on ordinary people. The play was shown in Q Theatre from 14th June – 6th July.
